A breath of relief
Raven thanks Zufall Health for lifesaving asthma care
Raven has struggled with severe asthma since she was two years old. Now 29, she is thankful for the support Zufall Health provided when she didn’t know where to turn for help.
As a child, Raven was frequently hospitalized for severe asthma attacks. Even into adulthood, she faced multiple bouts of bronchitis and pneumonia—infections that can be fatal for someone with asthma. With regular doctor visits and medication, her condition improved dramatically.
But everything changed when Raven lost her job—and her health insurance—in her early 20s. Without coverage, the critical medical care she relied on became unaffordable. A visit to any private doctor’s office would have cost Raven several hundred dollars.
Discovering Zufall Health was a huge relief.
“I was young and still figuring things out financially, and I was so grateful to find care that was not only exceptional but also within my budget,” Raven recalls. “Dr. Ken Kinoshita and the team at Zufall helped me manage my asthma with regular check-ups, adjusting my medications when needed, and providing inhalers and other treatments that I need to breathe and stay alive.”
Beyond asthma care, Zufall supported Raven in other ways, including behavioral health counseling and seamless referrals to specialists.
“Having access to mental health care was invaluable for me. Mental health issues can jeopardize your life in the same way that a serious physical illness like asthma can,” she says.
Even now, with insurance, she continues to trust Zufall with her care.
“I’m so grateful I didn’t have to change doctors when I became insured,” Raven says. “I didn’t want to. The care here is phenomenal. And by helping those of us who can’t always afford the high cost of health care, Zufall truly saves lives.”
