Why we give: Daiichi Sankyo drove initial support for mobile care, continues commitment today
Personal connections have always been central to Zufall Health’s philanthropic efforts. A standout example is the health center’s long-term partnership with the global pharmaceutical company Daiichi Sankyo, which started thanks to a suggestion from Corporate Communications Manager Rose Ann Hastings.
“Having lived in Morris County for many years, I was aware of the important work of Dr. Robert and Kathryn Zufall,” Hastings said. Hastings recalls reading about the Zufalls’ accolades in the local media when their health center was just getting its start in the 1990s.
“When Daiichi Sankyo, Inc. was looking for partners that aligned with our corporate philanthropy mission to support underserved populations, I naturally thought of Zufall Health. And so, with our support of the mobile medical van, our years-long relationship with Zufall began,” Hastings explained.
In the late 2000s, Daiichi Sankyo made a generous contribution to Zufall that made possible the development of its first, custom-designed mobile medical van, the Highlands Health Van. This game-changing support equipped Zufall to bring health care directly to patients with limited access to traditional health care facilities. In turn, the van’s impressive journey of over 90,000 miles since 2009 has significantly boosted Daiichi Sankyo’s recognition within the communities it serves.
Since this initial gift, Zufall and Daiichi Sankyo have enjoyed an ongoing philanthropic relationship, with the pharmaceutical leader providing regular general operating support to the health center.
“I’m in awe of the many accomplishments of the Zufall Health leadership and staff,” added Hastings. “Thank you for all you do for the northern New Jersey community.”
