China Delegation Visits Zufall Health to Learn About American Health Care
Dover, N.J — A delegation of high-level health officials from the People’s Republic of China recently visited Zufall Health Center in Dover for an up-close look at an American health center and to discuss Zufall’s approach to primary care and community health.
Wang Hesheng, Vice Minister of China’s National Health Commission, and his six-member team were in the United States to attend a United Nations General Assembly meeting. Accompanying them on their Zufall visit was Thomas Engels, Acting Administrator of the Health Resources and Services Administration of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
Along with a tour of the medical and dental offices and Zufall’s mobile medical van, the visitors engaged in substantive conversation with the health center’s senior staff, addressing issues such as access to primary care, health program funding, immunization, and the workforce.
“We appreciated the opportunity to share what we do to retain our high quality scores and successful patient outcomes, “ said Eva Turbiner, Zufall’s President and Chief Executive Officer. “I think our discussion deepened their understanding of how health centers like ours impact community health.”
In accordance with Chinese custom, the guests presented the health center with a silk painting of the Great Wall of China. Zufall reciprocated with a small gift of New Jersey-made products including Play-Doh in recognition of co-founder Kathryn Zufall’s role in inventing the children’s toy.
Others in attendance included Dennis Gonzalez, Executive Officer and Acting Regional Director at the U.S Department of Health and Human Services and Bill Shuler, Chairman of Zufall’s Board of Directors.
